The Newsletter of the Society of Connecticut Sculptors is mailed to the membership in January, May and September, and features a “spotlighted” Artist in each issue. There is also detailed information about Society exhibitions, events and workshops.
It is mailed free to each member, and copies are available from time to time at area exhibition sites, schools and galleries, free of charge.
You may see the current issue by just clicking on Editor Wendy’s picture, below. Or she’ll send you a print copy if you e-mail us your name and address.
The Society of Connecticut Sculptors was established in 1992 in the Hartford area by a small group of sculptors who wished to encourage the appreciation of “sculpture derived from natural forms” in the state of Connecticut. The Society achieves this goal by a combination of exhibitions, field trips and lectures, as well as other educational projects. All activities are open to the general public.
Members are inspired by a wide variety of subject matter and work in a range of styles, and  the inspiration for each work is identifiable. The Society does not show purely abstract works.
From a small beginning, the Society has now grown to almost a hundred members, residing and exhibiting in most of the New England states as well as New York and New Jersey. The headquarters are presently located in Essex, Connecticut.
The Society currently hosts two juried shows per year. One of these is usually in the shoreline area of Eastern Connecticut and another in Fairfield County. The Society also participates in combined shows with other arts organizations from time to time.
Past field trips have included a visit to the St. Gaudens National Historic Site in New Hampshire, a tour of a major arts foundry in New York and a guided tour of the memorial monuments in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. Other educational events have included discussions by internationally recognized artists and demonstrations by manufacturers of artists’ materials.
The Society of Connecticut Sculptors is a 501 C-3 nonprofit organization, and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by the law.
